Welcoming thousands of new Aussies
More than 19,600 people will be invited to attend a citizenship ceremony next week where they will formalise their commitment to Australia and become our newest citizens. They will create unforgettable memories at one of more than 420 ceremonies hosted by local councils and community groups across all states and territories from 23 to 29 January.
Australia Day is an opportunity for all Australians to come together as a nation to reflect, respect and celebrate. We reflect on our history, its highs and lows. We respect one another’s stories. And we celebrate our nation, its achievements and most of all, its people.
Australian citizenship is a key part of that reflection process; exploring what being an Australian citizen means to each one of us, what shared values bring us together, and how we can help make our local community a better place by becoming engaged, active citizens.
